Als (kunst)schilder krijgt ik automatisch auteursrecht op mijn
schilderijen, tekeningen en andere werken. Dit houdt onder andere in dat alleen ik beslis
wat er met mijn werk mag gebeuren. Als ik anderen daarvoor toestemming geeft, mag
mijn werk tentoongesteld of afgebeeld worden in bijvoorbeeld boeken, op posters en
ansichtkaarten
websites of in een agenda.

De bedoeling van het auteursrecht is dat auteurs, en dus ook kunstschilders, in staat zijn hun creaties commercieel te (laten) exploiteren en dat anderen niet zonder toestemming aan hun geestelijk eigendom kunnen komen.
